The Greenways are old railway tracks converted into passable paths, which you can travel by bike or on foot. And they are perfect for travelling alone and at your own pace. Also, some former stations are now hotels, hostels or information centres. Spain boasts more than 3,400 kilometres of greenways. You will be spoiled for choice. So, here are some ideas:

In the past, a narrow-gauge railway linked the 57 kilometres between Olot and Girona. Now, it has become one of the best-known greenways in Spain. You will begin by travelling between volcanoes in the region of La Garrotxa, and you will end up in the Mediterranean, in the province of Girona.

This 36.5 kilometre trail has won several European awards. It will take you from Puerto Serrano to Olvera. Along the way, you will find the Chaparro de la Vega, an oak over 200 years old. Also, remember to look at the sky when you pass the Peñón de Zaframagón: you will be able to see one of the largest colonies of griffon vultures in Europe.

At 167.5 kilometres long, it is the longest greenway in Spain and connects Teruel with the Valencian coast. Along its great length, you will be able to see a large number of different natural landscapes. On your route, you can also enjoy cities such as Teruel, World Heritage City.

Crossing the Larraun and Leitzarán valleys, this greenway follows the track of the Plazaola. A small mining train that linked Pamplona and San Sebastian for the first time. You can enjoy 77 kilometres of thick forests and tunnels dug into the mountains.
