Cycling is healthy for both people and the environment, and it's a great way to explore new places at your own pace. Also, Barcelona has more than 250 kilometres of bike lanes to help you discover the city.
Along the sea shore and through the old town
You could start along the coast, with a 10 km stretch that connects the Columbus monument to Fórum Beach. While you enjoy a pleasant bike ride along the coast, you will discover Barcelona's beaches, the Olympic Port and the city's old fishing district, La Barceloneta. You can relax on any of the beaches or enjoy some Mediterranean cuisine at one of the area's delicious restaurants.
You can also discover the city's various monuments by bike. Going up Paseo de Gracia, you will see modernist buildings, like the Casa Batlló and La Pedrera-Casa Milà, both by the architect Antoni Gaudí. If you go a little further, you will discover one of the city's icons, Sagrada Familia. Then, cycle down to the Parc de la Ciutadella and catch your breath in the old military citadel. To finish off this route you should take a look at the Arc de Triomf, a monument that served as the entrance gate for the Barcelona Universal Exposition in 1888.
Discovering its gardens
But not everything has to be tarmac, you can also cycle along Montjuïc Mountain. You will love the Mossèn Costa i Llobera gardens, where you can discover a wide range of exotic plants.
